About Online Courses for Parents & Educators
The Premier Multisensory Structured Methodology
for Cognitive Development in Mathematics
Fully Structured for K Through Calculus
Making Math Real is a professional development distance learning institute for parents and educators providing over 700 hours of seminar covering multisensory structured K-12 content in mathematics. Since the Making Math Real multisensory structured methodologies are so extremely intensive, systematic, and original, we are referred to as “Math Slingerland” and “Math O-G.” Therefore, our Institute requires the “Making Math Real: Overview K-12” course to help parents and educators understand the research basis and pedagogical foundations of the methods to maximize the educational benefit and to ensure their complete understanding of this new structure, and not to merely return to status quo practices. In addition, the Overview K-12 course is designed for all parents and teachers K-12, and is valuable for all teachers in public or private schools.

The Making Math Real online professional development course series for parents and educators provides simplified, comprehensive foundations for practical, systematic, and multisensory, structured methods in basic mathematics that is aligned with the California Common Core State Standards. Making Math Real is incrementally developmental, in which each new development follows directly from the content that precedes it. Course participants learn to break math down to its concrete, core elements using hands-on manipulatives-based activities demonstrated by the instructor. Innovative course materials are included in the registration fee of every offering and shipped to participants via USPS.
Making Math Real Courses for parents and educators were traditionally offered in-person in Oakland, CA throughout the academic year (on weekends), and every summer for the Annual Summer Institute (on weekdays). However, courses have now permanently transitioned to a distance learning [DL] format via Zoom in response to the pandemic. Due to the high volume of courses in the series, a limited number are offered each year, with some only offered once per year and others every 2-4 years. However, every semester (Fall, Spring, Summer) begins with the Overview K-12 mandatory prerequisite, and both Spring and Summer include the 9 Lines Intensive mandatory prerequisite. Be sure to visit the Calendar page for current and upcoming schedules, and the List of Prerequisites for the additional requirements on each major content course.
