MAKING MATH REAL CONFERENCE PRESENTATION
Wednesday, March 19, 2014
10:00am
New York City
David Berg, founder and director of the Making Math Real Institute will present at the Everyone Reading Conference on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 10:00am to 12:00 noon, in the large auditorium, immediately following the keynote address.
SESSION TITLE: Making Math Real: Decoding and Encoding: As Important for Math Comprehension as Reading Comprehension (Special Two-Hour Session)
By David Berg, E.T., Founder and Director of the Making Math Real Institute
Just as the Rules of Language define all aspects of the Alphabetic Code, the Rules of Mathematics define all aspects of the codes of math. Math, from kindergarten through calculus, is a comprehensive system of interconnected codes. If educators truly understand the codes, they will be able to successfully teach them to all students.
This presentation uses direct connections from research in neurobiology and cognitive science as the educational basis for all best practices of instruction in mathematics. Consequently, all methods presented are appropriate for tiers 1, 2, and 3 of RTI and specifically address the Common Core Standards requiring comprehension of mathematics – not just memorizing procedures.
